Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ordered a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities in the post-matric scholarship scheme that surfaced during the previous Congress regime on Wednesday. Mann announced his decision on Twitter. "I received documents pertaining to the release of the scholarship amount during the previous administration. Irregularities in the release of funds to private institutions have been discovered, and an investigation has been launched "Mann stated in a tweet. "Every single penny will be counted," Mann said. The alleged multi-crore post-matric scholarship scam surfaced in 2020, following a report by the then-additional chief secretary that discovered Rs 55.71 crore in misappropriation. The report also questioned Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, the then-social justice minister, for allegedly shielding those involved in the scam. The then-chief minister, Amarinder Singh, then directed the then-state chief secretary to conduct an extensive investigation. Dharamsot had been exonerated in the chief secretary's report, which was based on the findings of a three-member panel of IAS officers. Dharamsot, who held the portfolio of forest ministers in the previous government, was arrested last month by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in a corruption case involving tree felling. Dharamsot is currently in judicial remand. The scholarship scam had provided the opposition with enough ammunition to target the Amarinder Singh-led government. When the AAP was in opposition, it held state-wide protests over the issue and demanded that a case be filed against Dharamsot.

Delhi Metro has recovered roughly 76% of pre-Covid ridership and hopes to achieve 100% in the coming months, according to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) MD Vikas Kumar, who added that ridership has improved since last week after schools and colleges reopened. "It's not just the Delhi Metro." "The Covid pandemic has had an impact on Metro services globally, and almost all Metro networks around the world still have a 20% gap in bringing back ridership as compared to the pre-Covid period," Kumar said during his first media interaction. Ridership has increased, according to Kumar, as schools and colleges reopen and businesses return to traditional work models. "We hope to reach 100% (ridership) soon," he said.

From the 11th to the 13th of this month, the trains Kakinada-Visakhapatnam-Kakinada (17267/17268) and Vijayawada-Bitragunta-Vijayawada (07978/07977) were completely canceled.

The Visakhapatnam railway station will be upgraded and developed using the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) model at a cost of Rs. 393 crores. In light of this, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has requested proposals for the station's development. It has been learned that the decision to renovate the station was made in order to provide better facilities. The deadline for bid submissions is August 12, and the work is expected to be completed within three years. According to the officials, the Visakhapatnam station will be upgraded and will include skywalks to facilitate seamless passenger movement. It is also learned that a roof plaza will be built, connecting the departure halls and waiting areas above the platforms with internet wifi and a smart parking management system, where passengers can book a parking slot via an app. For the convenience of passengers, the upgraded station will also include retiring rooms, a medical emergency room, retail and office spaces, and a cloakroom.
